On September 10, I drove up with my boy scout troop and camped over night at Coyote Lake. On the way we stopped at In-and-Out Burger. Later that night we made ice cream and cobbler, and it was all delicious! Everyone went to sleep and about 11:00 PM. The next morning we woke up at 7:00 AM and a few of us snuck away while everyone was sitting around the campfire. We went down to the lake and skipped rocks and chased turkeys all around. Eventually the turkeys weren't afraid, and started chasing us! We came back up just in time for breakfast where we had yet another exotic meal for a camping trip, pancakes and bacon. We went over the basics about safety and equipment of motor boating so we could get the merit badge. Both boats were out on the lake by 8:30. To start, everyone got a chance to drive the boat so everyone could get the merit badge. After that was done, we just had a good time knee-boarding and wakeboarding. The boat I was in came back to shore to get the water weenie and inner tubes out of the car. We sent off two kids to go get it while everyone else chilled out in the boat. Within a few minutes, the ranger came up to us and asked our scoutmaster "Do you have enough life jackets on that boat for everyone here?"
Scoutmaster: "Yes, they are all underneath that seat"
Ranger: "What about a throwable cusion? Do you have one of those?"
Scoutmaster: "Ummm... I don't think so but our other boat has an extra on board."
Ranger: "Ok. Do you have a fire extinguisher?"
Scoutmaster: "No we don't have that either."
Ranger: "Well I'm sorry to say but you can't go back out on the lake until you've got those things."
So we called the other boat over and they did not have an extra throwable cushion of fire extinguisher so we had to go home. Our boat got off the lake and drove to our scoutmasters house and went swimming at his house as our back-up plan while the other boat stayed on the lake for another hour and a half.
Oh well. It was still a lot of fun and I got the merit badge.
